Read the following passage and answer the questions given below.
During a science experiment, Payal was given two test tubes 'A' and 'B' both having a colourless solution.
She tests solution 'A' using litmus papers. The colour of the red litmus paper changes to blue when a drop repeats the same process for solution 'B'. The colour of the blue litmus changes to red while red litmus
of solution 'A' was added to it. However, the colour of the blue litmus paper remains as it is. Then, she
paper remains as it is.
Based on the above information, answer the following questions.
i. State the nature of solution 'A' and solution B
ii. If the tests solution A' with a few drops of methyl orange indicator, what will be the colour of the
resulting solution? iii. If she tests solution "B' with a few drops of methyl orange indicator, what will be the colour of the
resulting solution?
iv. When few drops of solution 'B' is added to distilled water, how will the pH value vary for water? v. Mention any other method, which can be used to find the acidic or basic nature of a solution.

Answer:
Litmus paper is a natural indicator which changes red in acids and blue in bases. Compounds that do not affect the color of litmus papers are described as neutral. When litmus paper turns red then the substance is acid.
