Read the following passage and answer the questions given
below -
Prevention is better than cure, and it is recognized that the
only way to get rid of malaria completely is to get rid of mosquitoes
which cause it. Malaria is always associated with damp and marshy
land. This is not because the land is damp. but because the stagnant
water is the breeding place of the mosquito, which begins its life as
a larva living in water. Malaria does not frequently occur in dry desert
countries, because mosquitoes cannot breed there. The only way to
destroy mosquitoes is to prevent their breeding in stagnant water.
This can be done by draining all ponds and pools, and by keeping
them covered in the breeding season with a thin layer of kerosene
oil, which by depriving the larval of air, kills them.
(a) Make notes on the contents of the passage and give a title also.
(b) Prepare a summary of the passage.

The answers to the given questions are as follows:-
(a) Notes:
- The solution to malaria- eradicate the cause, mosquitos
- Places where malaria occurs- damp and marshy land, not in dry desert countries.
- Reason for marshy land- mosquito can breed only in stagnant water, they start living initially as a larva there.
- Prevention of stagnant water- draining pools, keeping them covered in the breeding season with a thin kerosene layer which deprives the larva of air and kills them.
Suitable Title:
Malaria and its remedy
(b) Summary:
Eradicating mosquitos is the best solution to malaria. It mostly occurs in damp and marshy land since mosquitos breed in stagnant water and live in it as a larva. To prevent this, ponds and pools should be drained or kept covered by a thin layer of kerosene during the breeding season to deprive the larva of air, thus killing it.
