Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow:

Fishing has existed as a means of obtaining food since the Mesolithic period. By the time of the Ancient Egyptians, fishermen provided the majority of food for Egyptians. Fishing had become a major means of survival as well as a business.
Fishing is the commonest way of getting fish. But it is not the only way. Fish can also be raised on farms-like cows and other farmyard animals. In the very early days of human history man picked fruits and nuts from wild trees and plants, and he got his meat by hunting wild animals. He had to learn to grow plants and raise animals. Since those days farming has become the most important industry in the world. Yet on the sea man has hardly passed beyond the hunting stage. Most fishermen are men involved in offshore and deep-sea fisheries. Women fish in some regions inshore in small boats or collect shellfish and seaweed. He still searches for and catches nearly all the fish he eats. There are very few sea fish farms. But how could the sea fish farms be set up? Of course, it would be impossible to start a fish farm in the middle of the ocean. Sea water fish farming can only be done in waters close to the shore-river mouths for example, or in the narrow arms of the sea where there is protection from storms. Shell fish have been grown in protected waters of this sort for centuries. The most famous shell fish of all, the oyster was grown by the Romans. Oysters are planted in special beds, and when they have grown to a certain size they are moved to other beds just like some garden plants. In fact oyster growers are more like farmers or gardeners than fishermen.
