Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow:
Self-culture includes the education or training of all the parts of a man's
nature- the physical, the moral and the intellectual. Each must be developed. If he
cultivates the physical powers totally, he becomes an athlete, if the moral only,
he becomes an enthusiast and if the intellectual only, he becomes a monster. It is
only by wisely training all these together that the complete man can be formed.
The ancients laid stress on physical training. A sound mind in a sound body
was their chief end. In the modern age, physical exercise has fallen into
disrepute. Education has become largely mental. The result is harmful to the
health of the body. Hence, in this age of progress, we find so many stomachs
weak as blotting paper and hearts showing fatty degeneration. But it is not only
health that suffers by neglect and disuse but also the bodily organs. The mind
itself grows sickly and distempered, he pursuit of knowledge itself is
handicapped, and manhood becomes withered and stunted.
