Bones are rigid connective tissues in which
contains bone cells and the matrix. They provide
support to main organs and also provide shape to
the body. Matrix of bone consist of proteins and
salts of calcium and magnesium. Dense bones have
a very regular structure and composed of
repeating units. In these units the matrix of bone is
arranged in concentric circles or layers called lamellae. The space between the lamellae is
termed as lacunae. Bones differ from cartilages as they possess blood vessels and nerves that
are absent in cartilages.
