Ans - ‘The Vet’ is a poem written by ‘Guy Boas’ an English author and
poet. The poem presents the problems a vet (an animal doctor) has to
face in a comical manner. The rhyme scheme for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 8th and 9th
stanza is abab and for 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th is aabccb. There are many figures
of speech like Alliteration, Consonance, Imagery, Personification used in
the poem. In the lines: ‘Why the parrot does nothing but groan’ – there is
Onomatopoeia. The word ‘groan’ denotes the sound of a parrot. The
central idea is to caution the youth about the hardships they would have
to face if they choose to become a vet.
