The exclamatory sentence is- 2) Wow! What a wonderful thing it is!

and the interrogative sentence is- 1) Where are you going?

An exclamatory sentence is a showcase of sudden feelings or emotions. It includes surprising responses and reactions. Whereas an interrogative sentence is basically a question asked to expect a response.

The easiest way to differentiate between the two types is by looking at the exclamation and question marks.

  • An exclamation sentence will always have an exclamatory mark after the reaction and most of the interrogative sentences will contain a question mark (except for the rhetorical ones)
  • In the second sentence, a surprise reaction is expressed using the word 'wow' and it is also followed by an exclamation mark (!).
  • For the first sentence, a question is asked as expecting a response from the other person. The subject is enquiring and this question is also followed by a question mark(?).
