Limits to gratefulness

The two main  limits to gratefulness are the chance of losing one's honour and the probability  losing  one's liberty.

Explanation:

  • Gratefulness is a very noble quality. In fact it should be possessed by all human beings.
  • All citizens of  a Nation tend to remain grateful towards the great men who have rendered lifelong service to the country .
  • However, this tendency of gratefulness has certain limitations.
  • Too much gratefulness towards leaders lead to a blind hero worship.
  • The ability of judgement is gradually destroyed.
  • This results in the loss of liberty.
  • Gratefulness leads to loyalty and obedience. This often makes one lose one's honour as the person towards whom one is grateful takes advantage .
  • The leader often turns out to be a dictator and forces his faithful followers to to obey him at the cost of their honour.
  • Thus Dr. B.R Ambedkar has rightly said that "there is nothing wrong in being grateful to great men who have rendered lifelong service to the country but there are limits to gratefulness"

The two probable limitations of gratefulness are:

1). Holds you back from following up your dreams.

2). Leads to the loss of one's liberty and respect.

Explanation:

  • Gratefulness is a virtue that allows an individual to stay happy in life with what they have instead of resenting over the things they aspire.
  • However, as we say excess of anything is bad. Similarly, B.R. Ambedkar has rightly said that one must display gratitude to the ones who value it but there must be a limit to it or else it may bring undesired consequences.
  • For example; If one is extremely grateful for being what he is, he might lose his interest to improve and grow in the life that will hold him back from dreaming big and achieving them.
  • Similarly, If someone works for an organization and he is too grateful that they provided him an opportunity, he might stop looking for better options and lose his liberty and respect and remain only a slave to them.
