Read the following unseen passage. MEMORIAL DAY The last day of May is called Memorial Day. On this day we honor men and women who have died while serving in the military. Events on this day include parades, visiting cemeteries or war memorials and displaying the American flag. Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day and it started after the U.S Civil War. The purpose of the holiday was to honor the men who died during the Civil War by placing flowers on their graves. In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a federal holiday and it became a day to honor those who died in all American wars. In the year 2000, the U.S Congress passed the National Moment of Remembrance Act. At 3:00 PM Americans are asked to stop whatever they are doing and spend a minute in silence to remember all those who died while serving their country. Answer the questions in about 30-40 words.
