Read the given extracts and answer the questions that follow: Surely it was nothing unusual for poor vagabonds without any better shelter for night to be attracted to the forge by the glow of light which escaped through the sooty panes, and to come in to warm themselves in front of the fire. The blacksmiths glanced only casually and indifferently at the intruder. He looked the way people of his type usually did, with a long beard dirty, ragged, and with a bunch of rattraps dangling on his chest.

b) As the poor had no shelter nor any good place to spent his night so he was attracted by the black smith's fire and hence he was there.

c) This place was the black smith's workshop where he was doing his work.

d) The blacksmith glanced him casually and his glance was trying to say to the intruder that he had no place for him, go and get lost somewhere. He done all this because he was looking so dirty.

e) the intruder was so dirty with long beard, ragged and torned clothes and rattraps slinging on his chest.

The peddler was the intruder.

b) Why was intruder there?

He was intruder there because he entered the forge without any work. He was not required to be there. Only the people working in the forge had the right to be there.

It was Ramsjo Iron Mill.

d) What was the blacksmith’s reaction? Why?

Blacksmith looked at the peddler without giving him much attention and did not say anything to him; he did so because it was a usual occurrence. During this time of the year, travellers often took shelter inside the forge.

The appearance of the peddler was pathetic. He had a long beard dirty, ragged, and with a bunch of rattraps dangling on his chest.
