Answer:

The poet probably left for Lyonnesse at night. We can infer this from the reference of “starlight” in the poem.

When I Set Out for Lyonnesse

By Thomas Hardy

When I Set Out for Lyonnesse is a beautiful poem written by the famous poet and writer Thomas Hardy. Thomas Hardy who hails from England is a leading architect who goes to a place to supervise the construction of a parish in Cornwall. When he returns, the people notice that there was a twinkle in his eyes and a piece of paper sticking out of his pocket. That resulting poem is When I Set Out for Lyonnesse.

The poet sets out for a mythical place called Lyonnesse on a starry, lonely night. In the poem he describes his loneliness and says that no one can predict what would happen there. He doesn’t say anything about what happened in that place but we can infer very easily that there was a pleasant surprise waiting him as his eyes had radiance that was unfathomable and glowing.
