Diyas: Diya is also called as Deepak, Oil lamp, Burning lamp etc. Diyas are considered as a source of light that removes darkness. There are also considered as symbol of knowledge.

And as if you studied about the mythological belief, then the diyas removes poverty.

Lights symbolises: As diwali have several meanings, one of the common meaning of Diwali is "Row of lighted Lamps" and lights symbiosis lightness over the darkness means good over bad.

Lights represent: As we lit the diyas, candles etc on the occasion of Diwali, that represent lightness over the darkness or good over bad.
