a) Metaphor, as the line is donating towards a specific thing which is to kill a tree.

b) Irony means to show something by words by means quite different from that. Its clear that irony takes place on a particular thing that the poet suggests the ways to kill a tree but doesn't want to kill a tree.

c) When we detach the tree from the soil, that is, if we take the roots out from the soil, then the tree will harden, thin and gradually dies...
