Akbar told Birbal to prove
- a man could do anything for money - a poor Brahmin was called
told to spend a night in a frozen pond, in winter, to win a reward the Brahmin wanted the
money and spent the entire night in the frozen pond - the next morning he came for the reward
Akbar asked how he had managed to spend the night in the pond
the Brahmin innocently
replied that he saw a ray of light a kilometre away - kept looking at it all night - Akbar refused
to give the reward — Birbal was upset stopped coming to the court -- Akbar paid a visit to his
house Birbal had lit a fire and kept a pot of khichdi' ten metres away - said only when the
khichdi was ready he would attend the court - Akbar realised his mistake and gave the reward to
the poor Brahmin​
