Read the paragraph given below and write two similarities and two differences
between the situation in Sri Lanka and the Revolt of 1857
The Sri Lankan government adopted some measures to establish Sinhala
Supremacy in 1956. An Act was passed to recognise Sinhala as the only official
language, thus disregarding the Tamil language. The government followed
preferential policies favouring Sinhala applicants for government jobs, and the
constitution provided state protection to the Buddhists. The Sri Lankan Tamils felt
that none of the major political parties led by the Buddhist Sinhala leaders were
sensitive towards their language and culture and denied them equal political rights,
which eventually led to a revolt by the Tamils.
