Read the passage and answer the questions . 12
The epic battle of Kurukshetra had already begun . Barbarika witnessed the war from the
top of a mountain . Barbarika was a great warrior . He was the son of Ghatotkacha and the
grandson of Bhima. Barbarika possessed three powerful arrows and a bow from Lord Agni .
With unquestionable omnipotence , Barbarika could kill anyone he desired by using just one of
those arrows . Krishna realized that Barbarika’s power could bring a lot of harm to the battle . He could annihilate everything without Krishna’s knowledge .
Krishna asked Barbarika which side of the war he would like to join .Barbarika had earlier
pledged to join the weaker battalion . Krishna explained to him the problem of the situation.
Since Barbarika was immensely powerful , his presence on one side would weaken the other .
and then he would have to swing from one side to another , thus killing everyone in the war .
Krishna didn’t want Barbarika to take part in the war and therefore asked him for his head .
Barbarika , before giving his head , expressed his wish to witness the war . Hence ,Krishna put
Barbarika’s head on top of a mountain that gave a view of the battlefield .
