Read the passage and answer the questions.
In towns and cities often vegetables are transported from faraway places of
from other countries. This is not a good practice because transportation uses huge amounts
of fuel which emit air pollutants. Moreover, although such vegetables are expensive people
purchase them depriving local farmers the benefits of growing such crops.
1. Does your family use imported food items?
2. Why is transporting vegetables from faraway places not a good practice?
3. Inform your elders why they should use locally produced vegetables.​

Soon farmers markets and roadside stands will be open and offering early spring crops such as rhubarb and asparagus. Also, growers who have greenhouses or hoop houses can offer greens early in the growing season. After what seemed like a long, cold winter season the chance to have locally grown food available to add to meals is irresistible.

Having the option to purchase locally grown food has many benefits.
