Read the passage and write the summary of it. Suggest a suitable title to your summary. 5

The Dead sea is one of the strangest areas of water to be found on the earth. Millions of

years ago, the Dead Sea was about 420 meters higher than it is today, and so it was on a higher level

than the Mediterranean. At the time, life did exist in it. But then a great dry Period came, and so

much of the water evaporated that the sea gradually shrank in size to its present state.

One of the most amazing things about the Dead sea is the amount of salt it contains. Normal

ocean water contains about 4 to 6 percent of salts. The Dead Sea contains 23 to 26 percent of salts.

This means that the Dead Sea is about six times as salty as the ocean! If you taste this water, it is not

only salty, but it may make you feel sick because of then magnesium chloride in it. The water also

has smooth, oily feeling because of the calcium chloride in it.

There are so many minerals concentrated in this sea, that a man swimming in it will float

with his head and shoulders out of the water at all times! These minerals can be valuable to man. In

fact, it is estimated that dissolved in this water are about two million tons of potash, which is used in

making artificial fertilizers.
