There are some people who must use their holidays as working days. This is
certainly a very bad policy. Our work must alternate with rest, otherwise our life will
be a burden to us. Rest does not imply idle habits. The most useful form of rest is to
engage ourselves in some change of pursuit. The selection of pursuits must be
determined by our own personal tastes. If we have a scientific bend of mind, we shall
derive much pleasure from constant rambles in the country to study nature and collect
rare specimens of plants and animals. If we happen to live in great cities or towns, we
may go to museums and zoological gardens. Theatres, public lectures and public shows
may be largely resorted to during holidays to cheer our mind. They supplement the
stock of knowledge we acquire from schools and colleges. Some holidays should be
devoted to sports and amusement. These greatly relax the mind and without such
relaxation, no continuous application to any serious work, such as study or business is
possible.
