Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow the news of the accident that had brought thousands of people to the crash site. We saw the police trying to push back the crowds who kept surging on to get a closer look. There were people even on the treetops. It was clear that the crowds were hampering the rescue operations. Microphones kept blaring out instructions to the crowd but a crowd is a crowd and nobody appeared to take the instructions seriously. An elderly gentleman called us, "Why not help the police in controlling the crowd ?" We joined the gentleman and did our utmost to check the people from hampering the rescue work. We heard an announcement that a few more bodies were yet to be recovered. The announcement said that the relatives of the victims could go to the hospital to identify the dead bodies. It was indeed a gruesome sight. I thought of the victims and their families. None of them could have suspected that the ill-fated journey would be their very last journey on earth. The clouds drifting across the sky brought a train of thoughts into my mind, all suggesting the flimsy unsubstantial nature of life on earth. Looking around I saw it was the police asking us to clear the place. (a) How was the rescue operations hampered?
