Gautam Buddha was journeying through kosala region. He was warned not to pass

through the deep jungle, as it was the den of a famous robber chief, Angulimala. He was the

terror of the whole countryside. He had committed many murders. All attempt to capture him

failed. So the continued his crimes unpunished. The people of kosala pleaded with the

Buddha not to expose himself to the dangers of robber’s territory.

But Gautam Buddha knew no far. The warning of the people of kosala did not affect

him he made his way into the jungle. Anhulimala was determined to kill the intruder. But

when he saw the Buddha, calm and self- possessed, and heard his words of kindness, the

robber hesitated. His arm which had been uplifted to bill fell helpless by his side. His wrath

cooled down and he knelt before Buddha. He confessed his became disciple of Buddha.

Everyone was astonished. The robber became a monk. His past was forgotten and became

respected everyone.

2.Peace generates from deep within. It generates from the Being to the mind and from the mind to the environment. It was said that wherever Buddha was teaching for upto 20 miles all around that place, there never used to be violence and things used to be very calm and very peaceful. There is a story of Buddha’s time.

3.Buddha was self-possessed and calm. Angulimala listened to his kind words and hesitated to kill him.

4.The deep understanding of the abominable practice of apartheid and the keen desire for freedom for all his people brought about a transformation in him: from a frightened young man, he became a brave freedom fighter; from a law-abiding attorney, he became a rebel criminal.
