northern plains, Great Indian Desert, the Peninsular plateau and the great Himalayas are the main
physical divisions of India. There are seven countries that share land boundaries with India. These
countries are- China, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Afghanistan. The country is
divided into 28 states and 8 union territories. Rajasthan is the largest and Goa is the smallest state in
terms of area. There are a number of east flowing rivers. Mahanadi, Kaveri, Godavari and Krishna drain
into Bay of Bengal. Narmada and Tapi are the two rivers which drain into Arabian Sea. These rivers have
formed fertile deltas. The Sunderban delta is formed where the Ganga and Brahmaputra flow into Bay of
Bengal. Sunderban delta is the largest delta in the world. Two groups of islands also form part of India.
Lakshadweep islands are located in Arabian Sea and Andaman-Nicobar islands in Bay of Bengal.
