Read the passage carefully and answer the questions by choosing the correct option(10)

1. Wild colonies of bees can be found in hollow trees or in the cavities of walls. However, bees

that are keptfor their honey live in man-made hives looked after by a beekeeper.

2. Inside the hive, the bees build many cells out of wax. There cells are for storing honey and

pollen, and for the larvae to grow in. there are three kinds of bees- the queen, the worker and the

drone. The queen is the largest bee and there is only one queen in each hive. Her job is to lay

eggs and she hardly leaves the hive once she starts laying. She can live for as long as four years.

3. Drones are made bees and workers are female bees. The adult workers do many jobs. Some of

them feed the larvae or build and clean the cells. Others look for nectar and pollen in flowers and

turn the nectar into honey. Each bee carries the nectar in a special place in her stomach. She

collect the pollen on her furry body and in pollen baskets found on her hind legs. When she

returns to the hive, she empties the nectar from her stomach. Workers bees live for between five

weeks and six or more months.

4. The queen lays an egg in each cell. Four days later, the egg hatches into a larva. Worker bees

feed it with honey, pollen and a milky substance. After five days, the workers cover each cell

with a wax lid. The larva changes into a pupa and then a young bee. It bites its way through the

lid and crawls out. If it is a worker bee, it will start work immediately.
