India is , at present , home to over 95 million people over the age of 60 , and another 80 million are expected to be included in the same age-slot by 2025. The apparent enhancement of living conditions and improved health care , besides awareness , has increased life expectancy . However , the growing cases of desertion and abuse of the elderly are not only a matter of concern , but also alarming. 2. Life in the twilight years does not come with many opportunities and choices . The comforts in later years of life , to a large extent , depend on the choices one has made while young. Social , emotional and financial deprivations are the primary constraints which hold the aged back. The feeling of being dependent on others , and not being given due importance , adds to their distress. 3. But it is not all downhill. Looking at the other end of the spectrum , there are a large number of elderly people who have challenged status quo and have stepped out of their comfort zone to enrich the lives of others . It is said if one has struck the right balance , in terms of career and life , has invested well in human relations and retirement planning, there is nothing such as old-age woes .
