Answer:

1. The reasons can be like this:

  • Plastic bags are everywhere in our environment. When we go to purchase our groceries, we use plastic bags because they are convenient. In fact, in our modern lives, it has become part of us. However, the convenience of these plastic bags come at a very high cost to the environment and negatively affects human health.
  • Plastic bags are usually lightweight, and as such, they can travel very long distances by either water or wind. The wind blows these plastic bags and trashes a whole area. These litters get caught up in between trees, fences, and floats in water bodies, thus moving to the world’s oceans.
  • Most of the plastic is made of polypropylene, which is a material manufactured from petroleum and natural gas. All of the materials are non-renewable fossil fuel-based materials, and through their extraction and even production, greenhouse gases are created, which further contribute to global climate change.

2. Jute bags are a good old alternative to plastic bags. Jute or hessian bags have high strength and long life as compared to other bags. Like cotton, jute is also natural renewable source which is biodegradable and compostable. Jute plants also cleanse the air by consuming the greenhouse CO2.

3. No, because the plastic bags or plastic articles should not burn left over because they release very toxic gases or chemicals that harms our environment and cause environmental pollution. Plastic articles takes millions of years to decompose and they even cause soil pollution . It pollutes soil as well as air both .

4. She can use polythene bags left at her home in the following ways:

  • In varied shapes and sizes, polythene bags are the biggest perpetrators of plastic waste. Despite blanket bans in many states, and citizen movements, these bags continue to be in use. What are the alternatives? Cloth bags are reusable, as are bags made from jute, burlap or even recycled plastic. SmallSteps Bags is a social enterprise spearheaded by Upasana Studio, which engages disadvantaged women in creating handmade cloth bags. The profits are shared by artisans and contributed to poor village schools too.
  • It’s common for us to buy bottled water when we are outdoors or travelling. These bottles are either trashed or end up being reused at home — both equally damaging to the environment and our health.Switch to glass bottles, which don’t contain Bisphenol A (BPA), an industrial chemical used in certain plastics, and are thus less likely to affect users with harmful toxins. Heavy as they are, glass bottles are not the best bet for travelling. Try stainless steel bottles and make sure that there is no plastic coating inside the bottles.
  • The best way to reduce the amount of plastic waste entering our oceans is to simply cut it off at the source and reduce the amount that is actually used in the first place. As well as reducing waste, this has the added benefit of reducing the consumption of the fossil fuels used to create plastics in the first place. As consumers, we can choose to buy products without packaging, carry our own water bottle, refuse straws and use our own reusable shopping bags - everyday acts that will significantly reduce the amount of plastic waste you are responsible for.
