Columbus found himself in a perilous situation. He observed signs of disaffection amongest his crew. He pretended to be ignorant of this but he felt agitated all the same. He tried to be cheerful an showed that he would be successful in his venture. Sometimes he tried to greed his men by describing to them wealth they would acquire and even warned that if they interfered with his plans, he would take revenge on the people responsible for it. But all this had no effect. The disaffection increased and one day the crew openly revolted and demanded that they would not go forward.
