Read the passage given below carefully and answer the following questions.
1. At a time when the use of fossil fuels to power vehicles is making environmentalists angry, an alternative source of fuel, biodiesel has emerged as a useful solution. Additionally, its use solves a disposal problem. The fuel is nothing but used vegetable oil which has been tested satisfactorily. It has made a vehicle called the Veggie Van (a motor home) run more than 16000 km across the United States. Also, it has visited 20 major cities, causing absolutely no harm to the environment. Vegetable oils from various restaurants in America were all that used along the entire journey. The novel experiment was started as a college project by two students, Joshna and Kaia. It eventually ended in a massive public awareness programme.

2. The idea of using vegetable oil as fuel for a diesel engine first occurred to them when they visited a traditional farm in picturesque Southern Germany where vehicles fuelled by vegetable oil were in use. While studying agriculture and living on these farms, they noticed that farmers were always filling vehicle tanks with a yellow liquid. "This fuel comes from the canola plants which grow on our farms and nearby areas. We use it in place of diesel and it smells good", farmers said. The process of converting vegetable oil into biodiesel fuel is cheap and easy to carry out. Any vegetable oil, such as used cooking oil, methanol or clear alcohol can be used as fuel.

3. The diesel engine which is being used can run on altered vegetable oil or biodiesel without any modification. Not only does biodiesel require zero modifications to the engine, this fuel works either by itself or blended with petroleum diesel. Biodiesel has since been recognised as an official alternative fuel in the US. Its use by the bus and truck fleet has soared by more than 100%.

4. Biodiesel does not disrupt the natural carbon cycle of the biosphere, as fossil fuels do. Originating from contemporaneous plant sources, biodiesel effectively takes in as much carbon dioxide as it ultimately releases upon burning, while fossil fuels, trapped deep in the ground for millions of years, increase the net carbon total in the atmosphere when extracted and burned. This increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is linked to global warming. The carbon dioxide, when emitted from fossil fuels, travels up to the highest layers of the atmosphere where it traps reflected sunlight from escaping the planet, inevitability leading, (some think), to global climate change. The real benefits of using biodiesel are in the long term, and measured not only at the tailpipe, but also through an analysis of the life cycle of the fuel.

2. From where is this fuel obtained ?

The vegetable oil is obtained from the Canola Plants. It is also known as Rapeseed and look like a bright yellow flowering plant.

3. When did this novel idea occur to two students?

The idea to use vegetable oil as the alternate form of fuel came when the two students visited a farm in Southern part of Germany.

4. Which of the following will be the most appropriate title for the passage?

The most suitable and appealing title for the given paragraph is "Bio-diesel- An alternate oil".

5. Its use by the bus and truck fleet has soared by more than 100%. Here, "soared by more than 100% means"

This phrase simply means that the use of biodisel in the USA has been increased at its full potential.

6. The project started by two students ended in _______ .

The project started by the two students ended with massive public awareness programmes which help in eliminating the use of fossil fuels and levaraging Biodisels.

7. Unlike _______ bio-diesel does not disrupt the natural _______ cycle of the biosphere

Unlike Fossil fuels, biodiesel does not disrupt the natural Carbon cycle.

8. Select the option that makes the correct use of 'disposal' , as used in the passage, to fill in the blank space.

He insisted on leaving the vehicle at my Disposal in case I need it.

The latter had the privilege of disposed from state dues.

The Disposing of areas is easily affected by the map.

It had all the modern convenience — dishwasher, garbage and Disposal.

9. Choose the option that correctly states the meaning of ‘contemporaneous', as used in the passage:-

The meaning of contemporaneous used in the passage is "Similarity and Simultaneously".
