By this definition, a large portion of the lines in the introduction allude the play will be a catastrophe. It discusses how civil blood will make common hands unclean, how two star-crossed lovers will end their very own lives, and how their demises will end a long haul dispute between two decent families.

"A tragedy is generally referred to something where the protagonist succumbs to destiny and fails to live up to the expectations imposed on him/ her.

In the play Romeo and Juliet, the protagonists finally succumb to death in order to end the dispute between their families who did not understand their love for each other. Thus, the play is indeed a tragedy.
