the poet don't know whose orchard is this and he had stopped there in a snowy evening to appreciate its beauty. his horse thinks its strange that he had stopped here between snowy woods and frozen lake. so to ask why he had stopped there his horse shakes his harness bells. the wood is very silent and their is only the sound of wind and snowflakes

in deeper meaning the poem is about our life. we are in a woods created by god. in last paragraph the poet says that he has many promises that he had given his children, wife and other people that he had to fulfill before his death.
