Read the short narrative and the answer the question below:
Once upon a time, a son was born to Apollo (the god of music and light) and the muse Calliope. The son’s name was Orpheus, and he grew up to be the best musician in the world. When he played his lyre, wild animals would come to listen, and the trees would bend their branches towards him. Even the rushing river would slow down, so it could hear him better.
One day, Orpheus was playing his lyre and singing, when he was overheard by a forest nymph called Eurydice. She came over, and he sang to her, and soon they were having a wonderful conversation. By the end of that day, they were deeply in love, and they decided to get married. But on the day of their wedding, the wicked god Aristaeus tried to attack Eurydice. As she ran, she accidentally stepped on a venomous snake, which bit her, and she died.
However, this is not where the story ends. Orpheus was heartbroken, but he decided to take action. He went down to the underworld, where all the dead spirits go. No mortal man could have survived this journey, but Orpheus was the son of a god. The usual rules didn’t apply to him. Orpheus found Cerberus, the enormous three-headed dog who guards the entrance to the underworld. He sang to the beast, and played his lyre, and Cerberus (who was usually very fierce indeed) calmed down and let Orpheus pass.
Hades, the god of the underworld, was waiting for him.
“You’re not supposed to be here,” Hades accused. “What do you want?”
“Please, will you listen to my song?” Orpheus begged him, and Hades agreed, because he had nothing else to do that day.
