Just one - Luis Alejandro Velasco - survive. For ten days, he clung to a life raft. Suffering from hunger and lack of water, he completely gave up hope when he was washed ashore in Colombia.
The author Gabriel Garcia Marquez, when was working as a journalist is granted a series of exclusive interviews by Velasco. He write these up and published them under Velasco's name.
