Read the:The Hardayal Municipal Library was started 150 years ago, in 1862 from a modest beginning as book club for British officers in the heart of Old Delhi, at the Lawrence Institute in the Town Hall. In 1912 it was shifted to KachchaBagh and renamed Hardinge Municipal Library as a tribute to the then Viceroy Lord Hardinge. In 1970, by a quirk of fate, or perhaps due to a non-historian name giver, its nomenclature was altered to the Hardayal Municipal Library establishing a vicarious relationship between the two, for as a freedom fighter Hardayal had carried out an assassination attempt  on the Lord Hardinge which the Viceroy had survived.
