If we take in more energy than we consume, the excess is converted into
fat. This fat is stored in our body, and makes us fatter. If we take in less
energy than we are consuming, our body draws from the fat already stored
in it, and we become thinner. An over-supply of energy is as harmful as its
under-supply.
