a)” The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated “.

This quote by Mahatma Gandhi is very profound. Animals are also living beings, so what if they are not humans. Like every other living being, Animals also have their own desires and needs. They should not be treated as a property or an inanimate object without emotions or feelings. A Nation progresses morally or otherwise, when the people living in it are given respect, rights compassion and protection. The same should be extended to all living beings human or non- human like animals. They should not be used for food, clothes or as a beast of burden, as a human being will not be used so in this way. So, the same rights should be given to the animals also.

b) When it comes to pain, love, joy, loneliness and fear, a rat is a pig is a dog is a boy. Each one values his or her life and fights the knife”.

This quote by PETA founder Ingrid E. Newkirk talks about saving animals. As a human being tries to protect himself from getting hurt or killed by any means necessary, the animals also value their life similarly and have every right to protect themselves from any kind of harm done to them. As the animals cannot defend themselves against such atrocities done to them like slaughtering them for food clothes e t c, it is up to the humans to show mercy, protect and keep them from harm’s way. It is not only the humans should have special rights. Such rights have to be extended to the animals also.
