Squirrel comes sometimes, when his home in oak tree gets waterlogged. He knows me well, and climbs on to dining table, looking for titbits to eat, which I deliberately leave for him. Had I met him when he was youngster, he would have learnt to eat from my hand, but I have been here only few months, and am not looking for pets.

Last week, I was startled to see emerald-green praying mantis sitting on my writing pad. When I gave him prod, he moved off in leisurely way. Later I found him examining binding of Whitman's poems; perhaps he had found succulent bookworm. He disappeared for couple of days and then I found him on dressing table, preening himself before mirror.
