Read this passage carefully.
1. It is rare to find a person who has not at some point of time in his or her life resorted to prayer
either for fulfilment of some desire, or to seek a solution to a problem. Prayer is like a petition
to the highest power, God, offered with a feeling of complete faith in Him.
2. Praying comes naturally to man when he is disappointed at all fronts in life. Even those who
may be called atheists, at times resort to prayer to get God's help, when all their efforts to
overcome their problems have failed.
3. Prayer is a great teacher and pacifier. It teaches a person to take their problems objectively,
which relieves them of the unnecessary anxiety about their problem. When a prayer comes
from within, God forgives even the deadliest crime of a person. The example of Valmiki, the
once dreaded dacoit in this connection, is well-known to all. By God's grace, he was
transformed into a saint, who later on wrote the Ramayana, the well-known historic epic.
4. Prayer has another important part to play in the life of an individual. It brings about a positive
change in man even without God's intervention. Every time we pray, God is there in our
thoughts which purifies our heart and cleanses our mind of all evil thoughts, leading to
positive development. At the highest level, prayer makes us surrender to the supremacy of the
Almighty God, the creator, the preserver and the destroyer of this entire universe. So, prayer
is a very powerful tool in the hands of man to help himself and others.
On the basis of your reading the passage, attempt the following.
1. Why does everyone pray to God at some point of time?
Why does the writer call prayer a great teacher and pacifier ?
