Read this prompt. Create a presentation to convince school board members that district 16 should add a week-long October break to next year’s school calendar, like other districts in the state. Which reason best supports the claim in this prompt? Schoolchildren need time in the fall to prepare for upcoming holidays. The number of school days required by the board is too many for students. Students need a break to study for their rigorous midterm exams. There are too many fast-approaching events on the school calendar.

You can either use this speech or taking ideas from it create your own speech/discussion:
Respected sirs and madams, I am here to request you to grant a week’s holidays to the students just before the mid-term exams. Well, my request is not inspired by any sense of truancy or to avoid studies; rather this request is justified and scientifically appropriate. I am requesting the break for the following reasons:
1. The mid-term exams test the entire syllabus. So, naturally the students require some time to study and prepare for the tough exams.
2. The hectic academic and co-curricular activities just before the start of the mid-term exams drain and exhaust all the students; they need a short break to replenish and refresh themselves for the mid-term exams.
3. All other states in our country provide a week long autumn break to their students; and I feel our state 16 should also follow suit. Besides, if we compare the number of working days of schools in our state, they are more than the neighboring states. It means, students in our state have to study more and take part in more activities. Scientifically it has been proved that students do need short breaks to perform optimally in their academics and co-curricular activities.
So, keeping in mind the above facts and figures, I appeal to your kind and learned selves to make provisions for autumn break just before the start of the rigorous mid-term exams. It will enhance the performance of the students.
Thank you.
