Electricity,is something that we take for granted,which is sad,because it's a fascinating phenomenon. 

It is produced by subjecting a metal to a changing magnetic field. This induces a current in the metal due to a force on the free electrons. Dams use the energy of flowing water to drive coils of wire in a magnetic field to generate electricity. Nuclear reactors generate heat,which is used to convert water to steam that is used to drive turbines in a magnetic field. This is a simplified answer, but the principle is the same. First, determine what magnetic force must be exerted on the wire. If the wire is suspended in the air there are two forces acting on it. There is the downward force of gravity and an upward force due to the magnetic field. Therefore, the magnetic force acting upward on the wire must be equal to the force of gravity acting downward.
