Speed is often used to mean velocity but force relates to acceleration. Newton's Second Law states that force equals mass times acceleration.F = maThe higher the force applied to an object the greater will be its acceleration.

Speed is often used to mean velocity but force relates to acceleration. Newton's Second Law states that force equals mass times acceleration.F = maThe higher the force applied to an object the greater will be its acceleration. When the force is no longer applied the object continues at that velocity (speed) until acted on External forces include wind resistance, friction, gravity.
