Rayon is a synthetic fibre which has the property same as silk but it is cheaper than silk because, to obtain silk there are many processes like growing silk moths,mulberry trees for the moths to make cocoon etc. but rayon is obtained  from wood pulp you may ask a doubt that if rayon is obtained from wood pulp how can it be a synthetic fibre, the reason is that after obtaining wood pulp it goes under many chemical processes so it is known as synthetic fibre. This one of the reason why rayon is cheaper than silk.
