hey mate......
fishes respire with the help of their gills . gills are richly supplied with blood capillaries and can readily absorb the oxygen dissolved in water . water contains some dissolved oxygen in it . when the water enters the fish through its mouth , the dissolved oxygen is taken inside and carbon dioxide is given out through the gills . in this way the fishes breathe in water .
when fishes are taken out of water , the supply of oxygen to the fishes is cut as the fishes cannot absorb and breath using the oxygen present in the atmosphere .
Hence , they die after sometime .
