Glycolysis is the pathway of breakdown of glucose into pyruvate/lactate following glucose uptake by cells and glucose phosphorylation. Glycolysis also provides the substrates for energy production via the formation of ATP as well as substrates for storage pathways of glycogenesis and lipogenesis.
