The sunlight is a polychromatic light which consists of seven colors that are violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, red.
These lights have different wavelengths due to which they scatter differently.
Blue color(violet) due to its less wavelength is scattered more in the sky. This is the reason behind the appearance of the blue sky.
Red light due it's longer wavelength does not scatter or scatter less as compared to other lights and remains at the sun. So sun appears red during sunrise and sunset.
