I was planning to be a part of the blood donation camp that was to be held on 22 December, 2018. The event was being organised by the local youth wing of the Rotary Club.

There were advertisements all over the newspapers, and the social media was mobilised to create an awareness among people. Many message floated on Facebook with likes and comments. There were messages on WhatsApp also.

My uncle is a member of the Rotary Club and was in charge of the committee that was created to oversee the operations of the camp. I visited with him to the camp to understand the utility of blood donation. The children’s wing of the Club set up a poster event for the day.

Many posters were put up at major places in the city including multiplexes and malls so that people can see and understand the benefits of blood donation.

Then, the day of the camp arrived. I was dressed in attractive clothes and came to the Club. The mayor of the city and many other important people of the city also arrived. The national flag of the country was raised and we all sang the national anthem.

Thereafter, the event was announced to be open. All beds were placed in a hall of the Rotary Club hospital. Many doctors and technicians set up a mini clinic over there. People came in large numbers for blood donation.

Weight and blood pressure were measured and put up in certificates. Each donor was laid on a bed and needle inserted for taking out 300 units of blood. Towards the end of the day, at about six PM, eight hundred and fifty two people had participated in blood donation.

The pictures of the camp was floated on the social media. A noble event went off well in this way. It was well organised with precision and a lot of people benefited from it because hard-to-find blood groups were also available now and many lives could be saved due to it.

The local government hospital thanked the Rotary Club for its efforts.
