Amphan- the devastating cyclone
West Bengal was recently hit by a powerful cyclone, Amphan that caused major destruction to life, property and environment. I stay near North 24 Parganas and have been a witness to the devastating cyclone as our area was majorly affected. The weather was a bit cloudy right from the morning accompanied by strong winds.
Around 5 pm, nature started changing its view and showed us one of the worst sights. Winds became stronger with time and suddenly it started raining. The strong winds started banging our doors and windows. We could also hear some glass windows breaking down in our neighbourhood. To add to our agony, the current went off.
We were quite scared and prayed for the situation to come under control. After the cyclone subsided, we could see a huge number of trees uprooted in our area. Also, the tin roof of some of the houses were blown off. People were left homeless, water supply and electricity were suspended for many days. The cyclone affected the lives of many and the effect is still there even today.
