Dear Diary
- Recently I had celebrated my birthday in lockdown. This was entirely a new experience for me, and I am sure for many people who have had their birthday already . It is a new normal or we can say a new lifestyle we are all learning to adapt to, intended at stopping the spread of Coronavirus.
- It looks like the lock down would be in place till the end of the year, and perhaps longer for certain restrictions . My birthday falls on 18 September and to celebrate I had a lockdown birthday celebration at home with my parents and little sister. This is not how I celebrate my birthday. To me my birthday is a reason to meet all my near and dear ones. I consider this day a chance to unite with my relatives and friends and enjoy.
- However, due to the lockdown having to keep my distance from friends and families has been the toughest and most challenging part for me. I live close to a lot of my family, and not being able to invite them or even see them or spend time with them is a strange feeling. But I understand this is necessary. I am still fortunate that during the lockdown I am getting all the essentials, comfort etc, to live, whereas there are so many who are suffering even for one time meal a day and who do not have roof over their head.
- Though I could not invite people to my birthday party, my close cousins and friends had organised an online birthday party!! A Zoom birthday party. My friends & cousins had juice, cupcakes, chips, and other snacks at their respective houses while I had mine. As the virtual birthday party progressed, we all played games on the "House Party apps".
- The bright side to this lockdown birthday is although the party was virtual, it felt more intimate. Some of them also send gifts to me trough online which were delivered to me at my doorstep. It was a mixed feeling, however, I know health comes first and it is important we all be safe. Hence, no regrets !
