Dear Rasel,
I am now writing to you about the accommodation problem which is being faced by our women garments workers. Most of the garments factories are situated in Dhaka city. Currently 30,00000 workers are employed in these factories and 90% workers are women. But no attempts yet have yet been made so far to provide shelters with the women garments workers. Rooms are rented by small groups of four to eight persons and a high amount of money is spent for the purpose. Serious trouble in finding out shelter is faced by single garment worker. Her miseries cannot be described in words.
At present a step has been taken to solve this problem to some extent. Some hostels for women garment workers have been established by the Nari Uddyog Kendra. Safe housing and furnished accommodation are being provided by these hostels. In these hostels, recreational facilities are also enjoyed. Each hostel is properly managed and supervised. If the Government and private sectors come forward, the acute shelter problem of women garment workers in Dhaka city will be solved.
Though a vital role in our economy is played by the women garment workers, they are neglected in many ways. First of all they are not given any accommodation support. They are not let a suitable house by the house owners. Even those who let house to the garment workers are protested by the other house owners and the neighbours. No more today. Best of luck.
Yours ever,
Sultan
