$\text{A bus full of passengers skidded off the VIP Road } \\ \text{ and plunged into the lower Bagjola Canal which } \\ \text{killing 8 people and injuring several others} \\ \text{ yesterday. According to the eyewitnesses,} \\ \text{ reckless driving was the main reason behind the } \\ \text{accident. The accident took place in about 3.30 } \\ \text{pm, when the two buses were racing with each} \\ \text{ other recklessly. Suddenly the bus in the route} \\ \text{ no. 6373-WB veered left to overtake an auto-} \\ \text{rickshaw. As the bus in high speed, its wheel } \\ \text{skidded on the dredged mud that became slush } \\ \text{during overnight rain. It teetered on the bank} \\ \text{ of the canal and turned turtle by the time it }$ $\text{fell into a low Bagiola Canal. There were 35 to } \\ \text{40 passengers in the bus when it plugged into } \\ \text{the canal. Many people from neighbouring } \\ \text{areas gathered at the spot amd a hue and cry } \\ \text{took place there. They informed the police} \\ \text{ station and also called the ambulance. More } \\ \text{people came running hearing the wails of the } \\ \text{people trapped inside the bus. Some of them} \\ \text{ jumped into the water to rescue the trapped } \\ \text{passengers even before the police team could } \\ \text{reach the spot. They started breaking the } \\ \text{windows and tearing apart the metal sheets} \\ \text{ around the windows to make some room for } \\ \text{the survivors to get out. Police arrived the } \\ \text{spot after 15 minutes. The dead bodies were} \\ \text{ sent to the nearest hospital for post-mortem} \\ \text{ and also the injured people were sent to the } \\ \text{hospital for treatment. Police investigation} \\ \text{ is going on. }$
