red colour of tomato & chilli is due to carotene pigment lycopene but why not phycoerythrin

because lycopene is a kind of plastid which has no role in photosynthesis while phycoerythrin is found in algae and responsible for red colour and is photosynthesic.And because no photosynthesis takes place in fruits therefore the colour of chilli and tomato is due to lycopene ..
