. When we put burning candle near the mouth of test tube consisting of sulfuric acid &
pieces of magnesium metal, why does it explode?
Why do the colour & solution of copper sulphate change when we take a solution of copper sulphate in a beaker and put an iron nail in it​

1) The reaction of sulphuric acid and Magnesium metal is as follows:

Mg + H2SO4 → MgSO4 + H2

  • -Hydrogen gas is evolved from the test tube in this reaction.

  • - When we bring the candle near the mouth of the test tube, this hydrogen gas burns explosively in the presence of air with a pop sound.

2) Displacement reaction takes place .

  • As the reactivity of iron is more than copper therefore iron displaces copper from its solution forming iron sulphate and changing the colour of the solution pale green from blue with brownish red deposit over iron nail.
